In late 2015 I was asked to join the steering group of Fashion City York. (FCY) Originally this was to concentrate on the social media side of the project; to help publicise what FCY was all about and what events would happen on the week the project runs.

Not long after this, there was a change within the team and I was asked to change position to assist with organizing one of the big events the internal team put on – a marquee in the centre of York where independent traders held stalls in the month of April 2016. Taking this on was a new challenge for me and as I’d not organized it from the beginning, there were things I learnt that I wanted to do differently should the opportunity arise…

Roll on 2017 and this aspect was my ‘baby’ from the outset. I expanded the size of the marquee to allow for more talented independent traders to be involved and in addition to their stalls, a catwalk was built so they could showcase their collections should they wish.

In addition to this, I was responsible for organizing the VIP night. This is held as a thank you to all those who’ve supported FCY and make the event happen each year as well as the businesses involved in the project.
I am a massive fan of catwalks being interesting to watch so wanted to incorporate some dancers into this. I’d had the pleasure of meeting a model who was also a professional dancer, on a previous work project and was so happy he wanted to be involved in choreographing this aspect for me.

With the help of the other steering group members, a lot of key high street shops very kindly let us use their latest collections for the catwalk which resulted in a great show for the guests.

To keep them further entertained, they were treated to yummy canapés and complimentary fizz as well as getting snapped with a giant Instagram board alongside the FCY official photographer and videographer.

Here is a snapshot of what the team got up to this year. If you’re interested in being involved in next year’s event in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me!
